I would like to wish all our families a warm welcome to Term 3, especially to the new families that have arrived after moving into our school area. We hope you enjoy your time here at Beechboro Primary School.
Last week we saw a start to our Breakfast Club in the under covered area. All students who arrive between 7.45 – 8.15 are welcome to enjoy some nice warm toast, fruit and yoghurt muffins served by eager staff members. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms Leech, for organising the Breakfast Club, and Ms Barton for making the muffins in her own time. As previously mentioned we have joined the Foodbank, but we are also being supported by local community organizations. A huge thank you to the parents who have also donated butter, honey and vegemite for the toast.
Last Wednesday, all students in Year 3 and 5 who sat the NAPLAN tests in Term 1, received their reports. We are very proud of each and everyone of you. Please remember that NAPLAN only forms part of a student’s assessment throughout their schooling. Although it does play an important role in student assessment, we look at the whole student here at Beechboro PS to ensure their growth not only academically, but also their wellbeing, socially and emotionally.
Our school community is a vibrant and diverse representation of society, where children learn and grow. We rely on the local community, parents and families to partner with us in their children’s learning journey and encourage open communication.
We all share a responsibility for providing a safe, supportive and productive environment, free from bullying, harassment, discrimination and violence. Parents and carers, and other visitors to our school, support safety by ensuring communication and conduct at school and school activities is respectful. We all have the right to feel safe and be safe at school.
The Department of Education has recently released Connect and Respect, a suite of resources to assist school communities in setting shared and respectful expectations to enable us to continue to work together in the best interests of our children.
This includes when and how to contact the school, what you can expect from us and the behaviours that interfere with teaching and learning. These resources and guidelines will assist us to continue to build upon our culture of connection and engagement, and we will implement them to support our staff to deliver quality education at our school.
If you wish to discuss any matters regarding your child, please make an appointment to speak with your classroom teacher in the first instance, you can follow this up by making an appointment to speak to one of the Administration Team.
In the following weeks I will continue speaking about the new legislation surrounding the “Standing Against Violence” paper released last week by Education Minister Tony Buti.
