Music

All children from Year 1-6 attend Music every week, for an hour and a half in the Music room. Pre-primary children participate in Music for 30 mins each week too. It is taught by our music teacher, Mrs Raynsford.

A variety of activities including singing, dancing, listening and playing several instruments along with performing are explored. Children are introduced to the elements of Music including beat, rhythm and pitch and use instruments to refine their skills. Percussion instruments are played throughout Year 1 and 2, the Ukulele is introduced and is the focus in year 3-4 followed by other instruments such as the Keyboard and Guitar being introduced in year 5-6 to students.

Every fortnight the whole school performs together at our school assembly. Throughout fortnightly music lessons, all classes learn a community song along with actions. It is a positive way to bring our school together and it is a great way for children to sing together.

At the conclusion of the school year, all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 participate in our End of Year Concert which is held in the Undercovered Area. All students perform a song and dance with their year level for families and friends. Simple costumes are created for the children to wear. It is a great way to celebrate the end of the school year!

In year 5, ten children are selected to partake in a special instrumental programme run by the Instrumental School of Music. This involves an additional weekly group lesson lead onsite by an Instrumental teacher. Our school offer two instruments at present which are Clarinet and Classical Guitar.

Our school Choir is made up of selected students from Year 4 to 6. The school Choir performs at our annual ANZAC Day assembly, Year 6 Graduation assembly and at the End of Year Concert. The choir also performs annually at the Massed Choir Festival which is performed at the Perth Concert Hall in September. The choir rehearse each week for 45 minutes during a designated lunch-time. All Choir members are expected to attend this weekly rehearsal session.

You can’t be AWESOME if you are not practising. Regular practise makes such a difference. 10-15 minutes 3 times a week is enough to see a MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT!
